Здравствуйте, Михаил. Огромная благодарность за ваши статьи о составлении резюме и поиске работы.
На данный момент я живу в Сакраменто, но хочу перебраться куда-нибудь в Bay area. В Сакраменто приехал меньше 3-х месяцев назад, потому-что тут были друзья, которые очень помогали в первое время.
Сейчас подрабатываю как аутсорсер - программирую на VC++ и MFC, но хотел бы найти постоянную работу.

Ну, Сакраменто, в принципе, не безумно далеко. Вопрос мой происходимт от того. что за час-полтора в интерактивном режиме можно привести резюме к каноническому виду. Так что, если соберетесь, то я могу поучаствовать.
Только эта неделя уже закончилась. а всю следующую я буду в отъезде. Так что, после 4 декабря можем поколдовать. Только нужно заранее спланировать. Вечером не проблема, даже лучше чем днем.

Честно говоря, большого опыта в составлении нет.

Вернее, опыт есть, но доказать нечем :(. Знаете, наверное, как это у нас происходило - устраиваешься в различные конторики, где записей в трудовых не делают, а когда уходишь - рекомендательное письмо получить только через труп начальника, потому что он обиделся, что я ухожу etc.

Вы пытаетесь составить резюме методом перевода с русского, что резко бросается в глаза. Кроме того, есть некоторые закономерности в структуре резюме. Они описаны многократно, но Вы либо не прочитали, либо не смоглу применить на деле. Это не очень просто, тем более, в первый раз.
Так что, я бы сказал, что прежде, чем Ваше резюме будет иметь смысл кому-то предъявить для критики, вы должны с ним еще порядком поработать. Для этго нужно две вещи:
- разобраться со структурой резюме, его частями и их взаимосвязями. Можете почитать мою статью в Компьютерре на эту тему - http://offline.computerra.ru/offline/2002/459/19923/page1.html
- употребить американскую профессиональную лексику. Примеры резюме есть в большом количестве на www.craigslist.com По некоторым профессиям есть у меня в коллекции на http://portnov.com/FreeResumeSample/freeJobResumeSamples.htm

0. Определитесь - вам нужна ЛЮБАЯ работа или та что вы хотите.
Ну я вроде не Михаил Портнов, но что бросается в глаза, ИМХО:
1. Objective скудна. Ответьте на вопросы "почему вы хотите эту позицию в данной компании" с саморекламой но в ключе пользы для компании.
2. Найболее сильную секцию расширьте и вынисете вперёд. Т.е. если вы сильны в Skills - вынесете их после Objective
3. В Working History детально опишите что вы ЛИЧНО улучшили, достигли, завершили. Резюме в большинстве случаев только наживка - реально у вас будут вытягивать жилы на интервью, поэтому вносите ТОЛЬКО самое важное и практически реализованное. Если этого немного - можете немного раздуть реализованное, например, если иногда обучали свой оффис М$ Word - то вы проводили Office Professional training sessions for personnel on regular basis :)
4. Побольше конкретики, не используйте общих фраз
5. Каждый раз корректируйте резюме для реального работодателя
6. Cover letter, thank you letter ---> Google
7. Используйте хороший формат, желательно чужой :) , потренеруйтесь на Монстре.

Нет никакой разницы. С огромным потоком резюме вас никто не запомнит, даже если вы поместите свою фотографию приделав в фотошопе себе рога и копыта :)

мда, я смотрю, составление резюме сродни искусству :)
Ну исскуство, не искусство, а любую информацию надо уметь приподнести понятно и лаконично. Я свое резюме переделала полностью. У меня было просто перечисление тех работ, которые у меня тут были, должность и даты. Кроме того я указала свой экспириенс с родины, так сказать. Я там была менеджером магазина 5 лет. Бытует мнение, особенно среди русских почему-то, что нет смысла указывать совковое образование и опыт, потому что для американцев это никакой роли не играет. Ну пусть тогда эти пункты не читают.

В смысле, что если кто такое скажет держитесь от него подальше - это человек из другого изиерения.Такие могут и укусить, чего доброго =0

Но как тогда быть с таким понятием как оверквалифайд? Если я устраиваюсь в магазин и пишу свое бакалавр дигри, то они на это смотрят странно и недоверчиво. Т.е. что-то тут не то. Конечно если устраиваться в какой нибудь русский офис, то тут все нормально. :dirol:

К слову о .... Писала я резюме для визы, проверял его мой начальник - американец (чтоб все документы в порядке были и в посольстве не завернули). Ситуация моя нижеследующая была - в текущей фирме я работаю инженером и занимаюсь тестированием ПО. На предыдущем месте работы я была (да, да, не смейтесь, чем толькол в институтские годы не приходилось заниматься) секретарем в детском садике. Так вот что он мне сказал: естественно пиши про дет сад! (я то сама этот пункт не включила, хотя это и было отражено в моей трудовой книжке). Это же значит что у тебя хорошие коммуникативные и прочие навыки! это будет полезно! Вот так то :) :dirol:

В магазине резюме не нужно. Просто заполняют анкету. Кроме того, там много временно деклассированного элемента из новых эмигрантов, особенно в мегаполисах, - они привычные.
Да, вы правы резюме там не спрашивают, но в анкете есть пункт об образовании. Друзья мне посоветовали просто написать хайскул и не в коем случае не указывать, что есть диплом, потому, что для американцев эта ситуация странная, человек с бакалавром работает кассиром.:fool:

На мой взгляд очень много. На один лист не поместится, я бы "TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE" сократила до общих тезисов. При случае, на интервью, вас и так спросят если будут нужны подробности.Резюме должно быть лаконичным ИМХО.
У меня вот такой вопрос возник: я проходила интервью и перед ним мне дали заполнить компьютерную анкету из 196 вопросов психологического характера. Вопросы самые разные типа:"Если вы стоите в очереди, а впереди вас стоящий человек не слышит/не видит, что кассир уже освободился и ждет его, вы ему скажите об этом или будете ждать пока он сам заметит?" Ну и все в таком духе. Собственно вопрос: есть какие-то ссылки, где можно почитать подобные вещи?
А в резюме обязательно указывать, что есть грин карта?
И обязательно нужно указывать одно название искомой должности в шапке резюме, или можно несколько?

Вспомнилось как одна девушка искала работу себе в Москве и долго удивлялалсь почему же ей никто не отвечает. А резюме ее начиналось примерно с таких строк:
"Начинающий фотограф, начинающий web-дизайнер, начинающий программист...."

Это не резюме в амриканском смысле этого слова.
Тут нужно определиться чего Вы хотите добиться. Если хотите сделать американкское резюме, то надо сесть и сделать. Можно отдельно обсуждать КАК это сделать.
Можно ничего не менять. Рынок емкий, людей не хватает. Ну, мало ли как пишут резюме в Киргизии. Кто-то все равно позвонит или напишет, хотя и намного меньше людей, по сравнению с привычным резюме.
Одно резюме пишется на одну позицию. Это не анкета для КГБ. Это рекламный буклет. Продаем цветы - даем людям буклет про цветы. Продаем горшки - достаем буклет про горшки.

У меня резюме на 2 страницы, изначально было на 4. я сократил на 2 страницы гораздо удобней и быстрей стало оно читаться.
Резюме не должоно состоять из более чем 2 страниц. Обычно рекрутеры/[HR] читают только начало для прескрина.
Если опыта работы очень много, оставьте только те места работы, которые вы считаете очень весомыми и значимыми для предполагаемого работодателя.

Уже сделали срез по рынку вакансий, определились с нужной специальностью и затачиваем резюме под нее.
Постараемся убрать все лишнее, со структрурой тоже разберемся :-)
Параллельно дарлинг делает вебовский вариант резюме, так вот еще вопрос, можно просто в кавер леттер давать ссылку на резюме?? или дополнительно прикреплять его в вордовском формате?
