average wait of 4 months
Folks, I got an email from our company lawyer today. He had called up DOS and the lady with whom he spoke in detail said that the current average delay is 4 months starting from the date of the interview!

The 4 month wait (for people who interviewed in late Nov) seems logical… the clearance time has been steadily increasing. People who got cleared in mid-Nov had waited for ~8 weeks, while those cleared in early Feb had waited for ~12 weeks. With this extrapolation, someone who interviewed in late Jan or Feb could wait for 6+ months.
My lawyer also said that there is NOTHING that can be done besides waiting. All information relating to security check is confidential. So Gandhigiri is utterly useless too. The Consulate doesn’t know what the Department of State is doing, and the Department of State doesn’t know what the numerous agencies (responsible for security check) are doing. And one agency doesn’t know what the other is doing, they just do their job. If someone got a clearance just after their lawyer inquired, it’s coincidence.

I agree with the part you said about nothing can be done to expedite the process. I work for a National Lab and have a co-worker from China stuck for 3 months and waiting. His Supervisor is extremely well connected with Congressmen/Senator/DHS and has been trying to check the status and expedite the case but has been totally unsuccessful.
The process is probably the way you outlined it, a black box. So, nothing can be done but wait…

When I asked if I can get an approximate date of decision, the lady told me that she don't know because "they won't tell us". I have stopped counting days , i think its been more than 17 weeks now, i dont know if this is going to end anytime soon.
I did not post any in the forum for the past weeks because i feel depressed every time i have to post my status as pending process, anyway i hope some of November folks got clearances.

Думаю не стоит беспокоить если вы ждёте меньше 4 месяцев (+ время на отсылку доков в консульство). Не стоит нервировать консульство особо. Проследить на какой стадии находится проверка они не могут. В процессе - и всё.
