What American accent do you have? (tests)

  1. Quiz - Which American accent do you have? - YouThink.com

  2. What American accent do you have?

Neutral. Youre not Northern, Southern, or Western, youre just plain - American. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don`t really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.

Your Result: The Midland
“You have a Midland accent” is just another way of saying “you don’t have an accent.” You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak “Standard English straight out of the dictionary” but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like “Are you from Wisconsin?” or “Are you from Chicago?” Chances are you call carbonated drinks “pop.”

well, actually, “soda”

Your Result: The Northeast
Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

Where’s your accent from? New Jersey?”

Which American accent do you have?
Northern

You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for. =0:lol:

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you’re a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

  1. Southern
  2. The Inland North

Mid Atlantic

Also known as a “Philadelphia accent” but also heard in south Jersey, Baltimore, and thereabouts.

Which American accent do you have?
Canadian

People from outside North America probably think you`re from the States, but over here we wouldn’t make such a mistake.

  1. Western

Western is kind of neutral, but not quite since its still possible to tell where youre from. So you might not actually be from the West (but you probably are). If you really want to sound “neutral,” learn how to say “stock” and “stalk” differently.

Southern

People used to hate Southern accents but now everyone wants one.
